Koceni Civil Parish
Territory: 184.8 m2
Population: 3135 ( According to the data of Citizenship and Migration Department as of 01.01.2009) The centre of Koceni parish is 0.5 km from Incukalns - Valmiera highway, 2 km from Valmiera and 110 km from Riga. Koceni parish borders on Berzaine parish, Zilaiskalns parish, Dikli parish and Vaidava parish in Koceni municipality, Valmiera parish and Burtnieki parish in Burtnieki municipality, Kauguri parish in Beverina municipality, Valmiera town, Stalbe and Raiskums parishes in Pargauja municipality and Liepa parish in Priekuli municipality. The territory of Koceni parish was formed after World War II. It included 3 former parishes: Koceni, Kiegeli and Mujani. Koceni parish is in the territory of Kokmuiza. From the 11th to the 12 th centuries the present territory of the parish was inhabited by Latgalians. From 1208 - 1223 they owned a small land Imera which was independent from Talava. One of the famous residents of Imera was the Catholic monk Indrikis (Henry) who later became the author of the famous Indrikis chronicals. He was the first who brought the idejas of christianity to this region. Zilaiskalns was the most famous sacred place of the early christians.
